One night, I arrived home at 12 midnight from work. I was completely exhausted from long hours of travelling. When I was entering in my house, one of my neighbors approached me with distress. She was begging for my help, her aunt was suffering for almost one month due to her incurable wounds on her elbows and lower extremities. She narrated that her aunt couldn't sleep and sometimes screaming at the late hours of the night because of her painful wounds. She couldn't stand and even stepped her foot on the floor. She was already sent to a doctor and medications had been administered, but there was no effect. My neighbor asked me if I could do something to help her. I asked my neighbor to wait for me outside, I headed straight to my lair and picked my box with implements for healing. Before I leave my place, I recited a prayer and invoked my pondo ( source of power ) to assist and protect me from possible spiritual attack. As I entered in the patient's house, I felt a presence and sudden surged of energy. Instead of focusing on it, I threw my attention to the patient. The patient was a 65 year old widow and a stroke survivor. Because of difficulty to get-up, one of her sons assisted her to sit. All of her arms, legs and feet were swollen due to the presence of puss in her wounds. I noticed some rashes all over her body. I asked the patient to explain and give further details about how she felt about her condition. According to her, whenever her legs were accidentally hit or touched, she complained of sharp pains. She also mentioned that there were times, that she experienced burning sensation all over her body and she compared the feeling similar to a burning candle. Because of that, she couldn't sleep and her suffering always occured during the night. To end her suffering and not to prolong her agony, she wished for her death. After hearing this, I established connection with my patient for me to decipher the origin of her affliction. I asked one of the family members to gather the following materials for the tawas; a basin, a pitcher, 3 glasses, two white candles, salt and a match. I arranged all of these in front of the patient and before I lit the two candles, I placed them on her solar plexus, recited an orascion and performed the tawas. While doing the tawas, I closed my eyes and put myself into alpha state. While the melted wax was dropping on the surface of the water, I established connection to the patient by connecting my chakras to hers and went further to my scanning to get images or any impressions that might be related to the cause of illness. In my mind's eye, I saw an image of a dark woman with a long blak hair wearing black. She looks sinister in her look and an image of a black man suddenly appeared in my vision. As I observed further, the black man was completely burned and dark like charcoal and his body emitted smoke. It seemed that he emerged from a huge oven and I assumed that he was a human spirit. An emotion of anger and extreme presence of malevolent energy started to crawl to my body that gave me goosebumps. I decided to disconnect my chakras to the patient and observed the wax. I allowed the wax to solidify itself and waited for any images to form. At the surface of the wax, I saw an image of a woman with her hands raised upward the sky. I deduced, the female might be the culprit and maybe a witch and the dark man in my vision was a spirit, sent to bring harm to the patient. I decided to do another ritual for futher discernment. This time I took the 3 glasses and poured water to each of them half-empty. I picked the first glass, murmured incantations, then blew it to the water and instructed the patient to take three sips. I did the above procedures to the other two glassess left. Nothing unusual happened to the first attempt. However, when the patient drank the second glass, she was completely disgusted with the taste, so I asked her about it and she said it was bitter. I insisted her to drink the third glass and I got the same reaction from her, but the taste was different. It tasted salty and it has a fishy smell. I noticed an uneasiness on her face and she explained her difficulty to gulp and the distinct taste of bitterness remained in her mouth after drinking the water. ( The bitter taste was attributed to the sickness caused by sorcery and human spirit and the salty taste and fishy smell for sickness caused by a ghoul or aswang )My next move was to test if the patient still have the "karga". My purpose was to get rid of it and severe its connection to the patient. I picked the three black feathers in my box, which I plucked from a black hen. First, I recited an incantation above the crown chakra of the patient and then inserted the feathers between the little toe, ring toe and middle toe of her left foot. I murmured an orascion and blew it above the feathers. I waited for a second and then I slowly moved the feathers. The patient started to react and she told me that she felt like there were hot iron nails tucked between her toes and it was so painful. From her reaction, it was confirmed that the entity was still present and connected to her.I recited orasciones from my libreta and moved the feathers once again. After several attempts, the patient was no longer experiencing pain. I removed the feathers and asked one of her sons to lit the charcoal for the suob. I tossed a mixture of incense, a pinch of salt, dried palaspas, a feather and a drop of sinamak oil on the glowing embers of the charcoal. Then, I smudged the patient to cleanse and to get rid of any residual energies left. After the smudging, I recited some prayers and incantations over the glass of water and asked the patient to drink it. Next, I taught the patient how to do the tower of light for further protection. From her heart chakra, I instructed the patient to send pink light to the unseen entities and to the people, she did wrong with and at the same forgive those who trespassed her. Instead of focusing on anger and resentment, send unconditional love and forgiveness to everyone. As a finale, I asked here to connect to the divine by visualizing the tower of light and engulf her body with blue light to protect herself from possible spiritual or psychic attacks. After the session her color had changed and the swelling of her arms and lower extremities were gone. She was able to step her feet on the ground and she no longer experiencing pain whenever her legs are touch. Before I leave, I gave her the saint michael medal and habak with some words written on it, as talismans for protection. I insisted her to wear those items all the time and allow them to touch her skin. I told to the family of the patient that I will go back tomorrow for the lana and herbal bath.On the second day, I went back to the patient for the hilot. After the herbal bath ( which consist of makabuhay, atis leaves, lubigan root, madre de cacao leaves, tanglad ), I boiled the lana oil and then massaged the patient using the hot oil starting from the head going down to her feet. I gently massaged her wounds using hot coconut oil. After one week, I went back again to the patient as my third session with her and I noticed her wounds were getting healed. This time, I used the Siete cabesas to completely heal and closed her open wounds. I wrote the word HAVA........M on a piece of paper, dabbed it with lana oil, recited the word thrice and blew it to the paper . Then, I covered her wound with the paper and dressed it with cloth. I put my hand over the wound, recited the siete cabesas together with the word HAVA.......M and prayed that the wound will be healed and gone. Three weeks had passed the patient was able to recover from her affliction.....

Shamanic tradition in the Philippines
BABAYLAN – is a Filipino terminology for those users of mutya and other natural mystic objects. Babaylan performs rituals like the Paghahain or Pagsasagda to invoke and appease the engkantos or the common spirits to connect and establish a friendly relationship with them by serving them foods through hain or sagda. The Babaylan uses agimat (another name for mutya) to heal or protect himself against enemies or by making himself invincible to all kinds of weapons. Mostly he uses herbs or perform paghahain to heal patients. He strictly follows rules and taboos to avoid sinda or punishment inflicted by the spirits for not following rules or observing taboos. Sometimes these rules are considered superstitious beliefs by others.
EXAMPLES OF THESE SUPERSTITIOUS BELIEFS ARE:
1. Stop eating when someone comes-up and goes down and brought some food. The babaylan pretend he have finished eating then start again.
2. If you arrived late and the people are already eating, don’t join them on the table, let them finish the meal. After they finish eating, go straight to the kitchen and get your own separate food ( don't get food on the table ). Go back and join the group on the table.
3. Do not put over the cold rice above the new one. If your purpose is to warm the rice mix it from the start.
4. When are lying down, do not let any part of your body be walked – on/stepped through by anyone even your wife and kids. It is the spirit in you that is being stepped down.
5. Do not let your self be urinated/dirt by any animal. This is very bad omen to the babaylan because human is a supreme, respected being not a waste bowl.
The above mentioned are very sensitive for the babaylan for they are affected bit in spiritual and material life. If they violate these rules of natural phenomenon, the negative energy will hunt them any where they go to put their life in misery as mentioned in Isaiah 8:19-22.
HOW TO TAKE CARE/MAINTAIN THE AGIMAT
The mutya or agimat are different from the oraciones/divine words/power words. These things are of God while the agimats are considered to be the power of engkantos/fairies, or common spirits therefore do not mix it.
1. In some instances the white stones can be mix with the divine but never the colored one.
2. Avoid all the agimats to include the white one to be blessed/ consecrated thru divine words. It will lose its power and die. If you have them both, threat them separately.
3. To feed the Divine Words is through its designated processes of prayers, while the agimats is through material food and is scheduled every first quarter of the moon, in half moon and in full moon.
4. If the mutya no is not for use, put in a glass of water and if possible drink the water the following morning it addends your power and the mutyas generally likes to be in water.
5. Give name to every agimat, it distinguishes one from the other.
6. After and before the pagsagda, or before using it wipe the mystic stones with ginger and if possible “Suobin ng kamangyan” it make them strong, do not use the ensenso or do not combine it with kamangyan for suob in rituals, it will distract its spirit.
7. All the mutyas should be placed on cloth or kundiman red, and those that came from human should be placed in black cloth, this will distinguish the engkanto power to human souls.
8. Avoid bringing your mystic stones to lamay sa patay, or internment’s it will lose its power.
9. When you are in the church avoid the holy eucharis or pagtaas ng ostsa. Get out from the church immediately.
10. When someone is dying, put the mutya away from that place because when the person loses its breath the power of the agimat loses too.
